Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in Medicine

Overview

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in Medicine at Inje University College of Medicine was established in 1999. Main academic areas of our department are History of Medicine, Biomedical Ethics, Philosophy of Medicine, and Literature. Our aim is to collaborate with other academic areas in order to facilitate excellence in teaching and researching, primarily based on medicine and medical sciences. Therefore, we provide a wide range of relevant courses and subjects at undergraduate level and an interdisciplinary research program at graduate school level(Master and PhD). Our specific research areas have been mentioned in the 'Research Areas' of this page.

History

Jan._1999 _The 'Department of the History of Medicine and Medical Ethics' was established with Professor Seo, ________ _Hong-Gwan as the first chair
Mar._2004 _Professor Kang, Shinik was appointed as the 2nd chair of the department
Sept. 2004_The name of the department was changed to the 'Department of Medical Humanities'
Aug._2007_'The Institute for Medical Humanities' was established with Professor Kang, Shinik as the first chair
Feb._2008_Interdisciplinary Program of Medical Humanities(master & PhD) was opened in graduate school
Sept. 2013_Professor Eom, Kook-Hyeon was appointed as the 2nd chair of the institute
Mar._2014_Professor Kim, Taekjoong was appointed as the 3rd chair of the department
Sept. 2016 The name of the department was changed to the 'Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in
________ _Medicine'
